thus this book is just perfect :)
unfortunately, i couldn’t find the free e-book version of it :(

    The Garbage Ring Jakarta

The Garbage Ring Jakarta : : Photos by Jonathan McIntosh:

The following photographs were taken in the garbage ring surrounding Jakarta Indonesia, a metropolis of 15 million plus. After the U.S.-backed military coup in 1965, Indonesia’s dictator was encouraged to begin a massive privatization campaign that eliminated free water, healthcare and education. Subsidized first world agricultural dumping has driven down crop prices below the cost of local production. This practice has forced millions off their land, out of their rural villages and into the vast sprawling urban slums to seek survival.

The purpose of this collection is not to inspire pity, but rather to generate an understanding of a people carving out a defiant dignity in the face of unimaginable oppression.

    sex in anime

Anime on My Mind ยป casual sex in anime vs. american tv

it’s a really interesting discussion about sex in anime compared with sex in american tv. hmm… i agree with the idea that the author is viewing the matter through otaku-tinted glass (as someone mentioned there)

    Vanessa Mae

    Vanessa Mae
    Official http://www.vanessa-mae.com
    Unofficial http://www.vanessamae.com
    Vanessa Mae on Wikipedia

i’ve been a fan of Vanessa Mae ever since i saw “Destiny” video clip years a go
her music is exactly the type i enjoy to listen to!
(i even like her better than Maksim)
despite many other popular songs filled up my playlist, i’d get bored eventually and sometimes would listen to her again
my fave tracks so far might be “Contradanza” and “Jamais”
Contradanza is so powerful, it lifts up my spirit everytime i hear it
Jamais is soft, jazzy, i feel it so romantic ^^
(i’m not a music expert, this is how i describe music that i like)

i do notice about the critics against her, the only thing that ever shook me off a little was the doubt towards her technical and musical talent
then i thought, i’m not a classical elitist, why would i care about technical thing so much, when i really enjoy listening to her music

oh why did i bring it up now? it might relate with the manga i currently read, Nodame Cantabile ^^
i felt that just a little, Vanessa somehow resembles Chiaki in Nodame

…i’ve been listening to classical (pop) songs loudly in my dorm, i wonder what my dorm-mates think…

Dillon’s & Shettlesworth’s How to Draw Manga Tutorials

at work, i always put aside reading non-work-related article that needs special attention, and save it for homework
but i’m lazy to do homeworks too ;p
so i keep postpone the homework for sometime, until i get really interested to check it over, or forget about it instead

as well as my intention to learn more about drawing manga by reading Julie Dillon’s and Patrick Shettlesworth’s manga/anime drawing tutorials
when i found the url, i wasn’t determined enough to really read them, so i put them aside as homework to do later…

    (so much later)
i remember the homework tonight and luckily i’m in the mood to use my brain a bit ;p
    so there i read them

Julie Dillon is an inspiring artist
although i think the gallery on her site doesn’t show as much artwork i wish to see
she’s so skillful, i wonder why she doesn’t go pro as manga artist

    Shettlesworth’s tutorial is very useful
before, i didn’t even know some tools listed there, like word baloon template o_o (well he got it in Tokyo though, so i guess it’s quite rare outside japan)

what amazed me even more is the fact that they’re both still in academic study, aside from their professional works
yet i keep asking myself, why aren’t they becoming professional manga artist… (coz my goal’s evolving around it ;)

suddenly i remember reading someone saying something like “there are lots of people who can draw nicely but they can’t tell you story”, explaining why some really skillful people don’t go out making their own manga
(thinking i’m one of them would be too flattering)
